An interactive workshop, the focus is exploring improvisation as a pathway to creativity, listening, and personal expression. Through guided musical exercises, group participation, spontaneous creation, and practical demonstrations, Kenny Werner will help participants develop confidence, trust their instincts, and discover new approaches to improvisation. Open to musicians of all levels, the workshop emphasizes freedom, awareness, and the joy of making music in the moment.

Panel: Speaking of Music’s Superpowers
We know the difference that training and education makes in ability to support patients, but not everyone else does. One challenge for therapeutic musicians is the limited public and healthcare personnel awareness of the continuum of providers of music and musicians’ training that may be found in facilities today, from community music programs and public space performers to bedside musicians and clinical music therapy.

Plenary, Brandon LaGreca: Emotional Resilience Through East and West
This plenary session is an exploration of emotional resilience through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and integrative medicine. We will examine the causes of illness from a TCM perspective, including the frameworks of yin and yang and the five elements. Brandon will also clarify the difference between stress and trauma from both Western and Eastern perspectives, including how stress is understood and mitigated through active and passive therapies. The class will conclude with a short, guided meditation inspired by the Celtic story of the three harpers.

Plenary, Karen Ashbrook: Major Pentatonic Through a Global Perspective
Pentatonic Scales are 5 note scales found in almost every culture in the world. The major pentatonic scale is used in cultures from the Americas to Africa and throughout Asia. Each country has its own stylistic approach, some with harmony (not necessarily pentatonic) and many with only a drone. It is the perfect scale for improvising. We’ll look at Ethiopian, Korean, Chinese and Mongolian melodies that use this scale.

Plenary, Rachel Allen: Embodied Movement & Music for Self-Care and Self-Expression, part 1 and 2
Participants will engage in somatic, gentle movement meant to release tension and stress and invite revitalization and restoration. Participants will also engage in toning, tuning and use of recreational music making meant to inspire play and creative expression. This presentation is suitable for participants of all abilities. Participants need a chair and space for gentle movement. Movement can be done standing, or sitting in a chair.

This session explores how to showcase your skills, build meaningful relationships, and engage effectively across platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok. Also included is an introduction to MHTP's new LinkedIn page –- a growing hub for community, resources, and professional visibility. By engaging with and sharing MHTP’s content, you can amplify your professional reach while helping to strengthen and grow the broader MHTP and live therapeutic music community.

Panel: Research Drives Stakeholders to Fund What We Do
In this interactive 75-minute session, members of the MHTP Research Committee share practical strategies for using research and program evaluation to communicate effectively with hospital leaders, administrators, and funders. Designed for both current CMPs and students, the presentation will include real-world examples of successful program advocacy, recent research findings, and approaches for translating evidence into compelling messages that support funding, job security, and program development.
