2025 Enrichment Day recording details:
1. Musical Modes: A New Approach for Understanding and Immediate Mastery; Ami Sarasvati, CMP
This presentation will begin with the Musical Rules of the Road, and progress through visual references and hands-on practice. You will deepen your understanding of each mode’s parent and defining interval that gives it its distinctive sound. A way to simplify mastering each mode will be presented using the pentatonic intervals within it. For immediate absorption and practice, please have your instrument to play/sing while on mute and be fluent with the C major scale.
2. Release, Revive, Refresh; Rebecca Strauss, CMP, Master Life Coach
This experiential workshop will provide you the opportunity to identify and connect with your current somatic and emotional state and recognize your strengths and unique qualities. Through a series of simple exercises and guided imagery, you will go on an empowering journey that creates space to breathe and releases your burdens.
3.In The Moment: Learning to Improvise for Therapeutic Sessions; Aileen Kelley, MA, CMP;
Mark Tulga, MM, CMP
This session will explore therapeutic improvisation for beginners and for those with experience improvising. Concrete strategies and techniques for improvisation will be taught, as well as using your ear and intuitive sense for improvising in the moment. Therapeutic elements inherent in music will be identified and the use of melodic and harmonic patterns, modes and rhythms will be explored as to how they can be applied therapeutically through improvisation. Have your therapeutic music instruments ready for practice sessions in small breakout groups to engage in each skill.
4. Intro to The Athletic Musician; Amy Hemrick, BA, CMP, CME
Attendees will learn more about neutral posture as it applies to playing a variety of instruments. Techniques to maintain good physical health to promote the best possible playing posture will also be discussed and practiced.
