Repertoire Development Webinar: A Melting Pot of Therapeutic Music

This event is 4:00 pm EASTERN TIME (3:00 pm Central, 2:00 pm Mountain, 1:00 pm Pacific).

With the wide diversity of cultures within the expanse of the American “melting pot” of people, comes the need for therapeutic musicians to learn about different musical backgrounds. Whether you call it ethnic or world music, or specifics such as music from Asian/Pacific, Latin, Jewish, Arabic, American Folk cultures and many more, this webinar is an opportunity to share and to learn from others about a variety of cultural music that CMPs may use in healthcare.

OPEN TO GRADUATES AND STUDENTS OF MHTP and of other NSBTM-accredited programs. Cost is $45. CMPs and graduates of other NSBTM-accredited programs earn 2 CEUs. All attendees receive copies of the submitted music, and the recording of the webinar.

After being contacted by the webinar facilitator, each attendee will provide to the facilitator via email prior to the start of the webinar, three of their "go-to" songs for cultural groups in their area that they use/may use in providing live therapeutic music. Include: titles of music they will be sharing, copies of the music and if known, any copyright free access to the music.

During the webinar, be prepared to briefly demo and/or say why it is a favorite of yours to use therapeutically.

This webinar is facilitated by Amy Hemker, CMP, Module 1 Teacher.

Amy Hemker graduated with an Applied Studies in flute and theory/composition dual major from Ohio Northern University in 2014. She is a 2017 graduate of MHTP and has worked in hospice and several hospitals in Michigan and Ohio. In addition to flute, she is also certified on violin, recorder, and harp.

Important notices you agree to:

  1. Webinar registration form and payment must be received by MHTP at least 7 days prior to each webinar.

  2. I must participate in the webinar by playing/demonstrating appropriate repertoire.

  3. I must provide the facilitator examples (names and source if known) of repertoire for the webinar’s topic. Facilitator will notify me about sending this information.

  4. I will set up a free Zoom account for the webinar (Facilitator will send instructions).

  5. I must complete the class evaluation form at the end of the webinar to receive all take-home information.

If you have a request for a type of repertoire that you would like to gain more experience on, please email the MHTP CEO.

Cancellation: If MHTP cancels a webinar because of too few participants (less than five (5)) or any other reason, all participants will be notified via email and will receive a full refund ($45). If a participant must cancel, that participant should immediately notify MHTP’s Registrar. If a participant cancels more than one (1) week in advance, a full refund will be given. If a participant cancels less than one (1) week in advance, no refund will be given, as last-minute cancellations could make the number of participants too small for a webinar to be viable. “One (1) week” is defined literally; i.e., exactly seven (7) days prior to the scheduled start of a webinar (e.g., for a webinar scheduled for 8PM Eastern on January 14, “One (1) week in advance” is 8PM Eastern on January 7). NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN IF YOU ARE NOT AN MHTP STUDENT OR CMP OR STUDENT OR GRADUATE OF ANOTHER THERAPEUTIC MUSIC PROGRAM.
