Celebrating Music & Miracles

To celebrate music and miracles- Skort Obsession

Several years ago, my dad broke his hip. He came through the surgery well, but the combination of being in the hospital and the drugs he was on made him delusional and agitated. I traveled to be with him and my brother, bringing my harp. I played my “hospital music” for him and it helped calm him. I stayed for about a week, playing for him everyday. A few days after I got home, my brother was with my dad in the late afternoon and he started to get agitated again. My brother held his hands and told him to close his eyes and pretend he could hear me playing my harp. My father closed his eyes and relaxed. My brother said my music “worked” even when I was 350 miles away. - Cindy Lewellen, Morgantown, WV

I grew up in a home where every school morning was greeted by music played on the turntable. I began piano lessons at age 10, sang in the church choir, had an affinity for singing in harmony even if I didn't know the music. My grandmother Clara paid for my first summer at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Music filled the air, a cacophony of melodies emanating from practice studios. I thought this is what heaven must be like. Now I play harp for patients in a hospital and I collaborate with the other CMPs there on musical compositions. That is a miracle to me.- Stacy S from Ann Arbor MI

MHTP has been a miracle for me and the patients I sing for. I would not have had a great start to a career if it wasn't for MHTP. This donation is dedicated to my father James Mernin who has Dementia and Mental Illness.-Catherine Mernin of Concord NH

Playing in the hospital every week, I witnessed the profound healing power of music. Being a CMP has been a great blessing for me, as well as for my patients and students.-Aline

To celebrate music and miracles- Shenée Rayford

MHTP came into my life at a time of deep searching with regard to my vocation. The timing was miraculous, emerging as light from darkness and providing a path for me to offer a ministry of healing and love with music on the harp. -Sabrina F. from Indianapolis
