Join your fellow CMPs, MHTP students, and friends on Zoom for a full day to learn, stay connected. CMPs and graduates of other NSBTM-accredited programs earn 10 continuing education units (CEUs).

09:10 – 10:10 Music Research: Benefits, Considerations, and Expectations; Clara Takarabe, CMP, Judy Raab, MA, CMP and Mary Superak, MA, CMP

Learn about the rewards and challenges of research projects specifically designed to investigate the effects of live therapeutic music on patients’ physical and mental health.

10:10 – 10:20 Break

10:20 – 11:25 Your Most Challenging Live Therapeutic Music Sessions: Breakout Room Sharing and Learning; All Attendees

Contribute to the experiential knowledge of your community of therapeutic musicians by sharing briefly what you consider to be one of your most challenging sessions with a patient (HIPPA rules apply to protect patients’ private information!). Learn what others might have done in the situation, and in turn respond to someone else’s challenging session.

11:30 – 12:30 Enjoy the Modes: How to Identify and Use the Modes in Your Music; Karen Peterson, CMP

Learn the flavor notes and chords that give each mode its characteristic sound. Hone in on what makes each mode different by comparing modes starting on the same note. Discuss how to choose a mode for patients based on qualities of light/dark and familiar/exotic. Bring your instrument.

This presentation encourages participants to take a deeper look at what the idea of self-care means to each of us personally, challenges some of the myths and misconceptions about self-care and challenges participants to discover ways to effectively incorporate regular self-care practices into their lives.

03:45 – 04:45 You Just Became a Certified Music Practitioner. Now What?! Tess Miller, DMA, CMP, CPC

In this presentation, an internal and external approach will be taken to job hunting as a CMP.  Part 1 will be an interactive brainstorm session to jumpstart ideas for job opportunities in your community. Part 2 will acknowledge any inner obstacles that get in the way of pursuing those opportunities.

Join MHTP Faculty Amy Lauback and Matt Peroutka as they lead this experiential session on improvisation techniques. All skill levels and comfort levels are welcome whether you’re scared to try or a jazz master.
