Basic Music Theory Review

Have you forgotten the basic music theory terms and need a brush-up? Are you an amateur musician who has never studied theory? Karen Ashbrook, instructor of this 75-minute workshop, will teach you the answers to the following questions and several more common terms will be covered.

What is "diatonic" vs "chromatic"?
What is a chord "progression," a "ground" or "bassline"?
Do you know the difference between a major and minor triad?
Between whole steps and half steps?  
What is the Circle of Fifths?

Date: February 13, 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. Eastern
CMPs and graduates of other therapeutic music training programs earn 1.25 CEUs 

$25 for participants not registered for the Mystery of Modes webinar.
$10 for Mystery of Modes participants. (This cost is included in your sign-up for the Mystery of Modes course when you choose the “brush-up” option)

No instruments or pre-work needed.

Your instructor is Karen Ashbrook, CMP. Karen brings over 40 years of experience playing the dulcimer around the world in many styles to her therapeutic music. Currently, she works as an Artist in Residence as part of the Arts & Humanities Program➚ at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and in the Stages of Healing at Walter Reed Medical Center at the Bethesda Naval Base. Open to anyone: CMPs, MHTP students, other therapeutic musicians and students, and all other musicians. CMPs earn 1.25 continuing education units (CEUs).

Important notices you agree to:

  1. Webinar registration form and payment must be received by MHTP at least 7 days prior to each webinar.

  2. I will set up a free Zoom account for the webinar (Facilitator will send instructions).

  3. I must complete the class evaluation form at the end of the webinar to receive all take-home information.

Cancellation: If MHTP cancels this webinar because of too few participants or any other reason, all participants will be notified via email and will receive a full refund. If a participant must cancel, that participant should immediately notify MHTP. If a participant cancels more than one week in advance of the first workshop, a full refund will be given. If a participant cancels less than one week in advance (after 4:00pm EST February 6), no refund will be given.
