Being Mortal Webinar

Registration is closed for this webinar.

This event is 4:00 pm EASTERN TIME (3:00 pm Central, 2:00 pm Mountain, 1:00 pm Pacific).

Discuss questions raised from the book Being Mortal by Atul Gawande (you do not have to read the book to attend).

By examining our own beliefs around aging and quality of life, certified therapeutic musicians can find and deepen your inner support to connect with patients who are experiencing their own mortality as you help to bring dignity and humanity to the aging and dying process.

“We’ve been wrong about what our job is in medicine. We think our job is to ensure health and survival. But really it is larger than that. It is to enable well-being. And well-being is about the reasons one wishes to be alive.” -Atul Gawande

Explore reflections of your own attitudes on aging and quality of life. Share your own fears and beliefs around dying.

  • What is your attitude toward old age? Something to avoid thinking about or something to be honored?

  • What matters to you most at the end of life (e.g., being able to recognize your children, no pain, a sense of independence)?

  • How does the work of a certified therapeutic musician fit with this approach?

These are just a few of the opportunities for reflection and discussion in the supportive environment of this webinar. You will be in small breakout groups to discuss issues and questions, provided by the facilitator, that come from the Being Mortal book, then share some of these thoughts with the larger group. Some pre-webinar reflection is required.

No instruments needed; come with an open and receptive heart and mind.
