Writing a Civil Monetary Penalty Grant: Tips for Success

Registration is now closed for this webinar.

This event is 4:00 pm EASTERN TIME (3:00 pm Central, 2:00 pm Mountain, 1:00 pm Pacific).

Whether you are a single practitioner or have a relationship with a group of therapeutic musicians in your community, you may be eligible to apply for Civil Monetary Penalty (CMP) grant funds in your state. CMP funds are generated from fines levied against nursing homes for compliance issues. Who better to make lemonade out of lemons than therapeutic musicians?

Your instructor for this exciting webinar is Julie Rehder, Certified Music Practitioner. Julie's three-year grant, on behalf of the Therapeutic Musicians of Coastal Carolina, was approved in June 2021 for $440,078 and involves serving 12 nursing homes by paying for the work of eight therapeutic musicians.

Julie Rehder shares her winning strategies for writing a compelling one-year or three-year grant. Her candid presentation on the grant process builds on the successes (and struggles) of the North Carolina and Louisiana grants approved by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Certified Music Practitioners and graduates of other NSBTM-accredited therapeutic music programs earn 2 CEUs. Participants will be assigned by Julie to do some light reading prior to the presentation in order for your specific questions addressed in the Q&A portion of the presentation will lead to your successful grant awards.

Open to anyone. CMPs and graduates of other therapeutic music training programs earn 2 continuing education units (CEUs).

This webinar is facilitated by Julie Rehdner, MALS, CMP.

Julie Rehder, MALS, CMP. Julie retired in 2019 as the Marketing and Community Relations Administrator for a large, not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community in Wilmington, NC. At the campus facilities she was able to use her skills as a CMP, and gained the support of staff and management to build a therapeutic music program on the campus.  Through grants, concerts, and private donations the program has been offered for five years to residents in need, especially at end of life.  The facility also served as a MHTP practicum site. The program expanded in 2021 to a minimum of seven additional skilled nursing facilities, employing five CMPs and one CCM.  Grant funds for this project are provided through a state sponsored Culture Change grant. Julie will serve as the Project Director and a therapeutic musician.  The details of this grant will be included in her presentation to encourage expansion by other therapeutic musicians to other states.
