Start the process to be a Certified Music Practitioner

Like all journeys, this one begins with a single step.

Step 1: Fill out the application

Anyone wishing to take MHTP modules and become a Certified Music Practitioner must apply to and be accepted into the Program. There is a one-time Application Fee of $195.

You can complete the application any one of two ways: online or via postal mail:

Step 2: Provide two letters of reference

Two letters of reference, describing your personal qualities and musical abilities, are also required. These should come, for example, from a supervisor, music teacher, or clergy person.  These letters should be emailed to the Program Coordinator directly by the writers (not by you) or mailed by the writers via postal mail to: MHTP, 1305 Church Road, Oreland, PA 19075

And then what happens?

After the Administrative Office receives your entire Application packet (Student Application Form, Statement of Agreement,  Application Fee, and two letters of reference), the information will be carefully reviewed and assessed.

If accepted, you will be sent a Welcome email with instructions for setting up tuition payments, and you will be assigned an Advisor.

See a full description of the costs and payment plans for becoming a Certified Music Practitioner.

When can I start taking classes?

Ideally, you should begin the application process at least four weeks  prior to the date of the first module that you wish to attend. To apply when a module is less than four weeks from your application date, email the MHTP Administrative Office (mhtp@mhtp.org) to discuss the timing.

MHTP modules generally are limited to 15 students so that our Teachers can best serve our students. Submitting your application well in advance of scheduled modules will help ensure your place in the Program at the time and place you wish to attend.  Once you are accepted as a student, you can view the module schedule and can register for modules.

If, after applying, you find that you are not able to start as quickly as you thought, you may place a hold on your application process for a period of up to two years from the date of application and have your application remain active.

How quickly will I be able to graduate?

MHTP prefers that you complete the Program in two years and requires that it be completed within three years from the date of the first module attended. Read more details about this in the Handbook for Students and Graduates.

Here is a list of everything you need to do to graduate.
