Advisor Program

Information about the Advisor Program

The Advisor Program provides each student with professional guidance throughout his/her training.

An Advisor coaches a student through the Program, and ensures that the student completes all certification/graduation requirements in a timely fashion.

The Advisor Administrator assigns each student an Advisor after the Student Application and registration fee have been received by the Application Registrar. Advisors are qualified CMPs who work with the Advisor Administrator and with Area Coordinators and teachers of MHTP modules.

The Advisor Administrator assigns the advisor after the student sends in the application and registration fee. The advisors are qualified Certified Music Practitioners (CMP's) working with the Advisor Administrator as well as with Area Coordinators (AC's) and Teachers of MHTP modules.

Advisor Responsibilities to the Students

The fee paid to the advisor comes from the Registration Fee that is submitted along with the student's resume. This pays for the advisor's initial consultation and advisement throughout the student's study.

The Advisor:

  • Reviews the resume and credits given to the student by the Central Office
  • Holds an initial consultation by phone, email or postal mail
  • Helps the student create and define his or her goals for completing the program in a reasonable time-frame
  • Provides guidance, through conversations/email/postal mail, so that the student understands proper procedures for registering for classes, etc.
  • Monitors the student's progress after the modules
  • Provides the Module Exam to the student after completion of all five modules, repertoire list and all book reviews.
  • Reads and evaluates the student’s book reviews.
  • Coaches the student throughout his or her internship and helping the student match the type of service with available facilities, provide advice and support as needed and review patient logs
  • Makes the initial assessment of the student's musical ability with the advice of the teachers who observe the student's playing abilities in classes, and recommends additional study if necessary
  • Assesses the student's final recording as well as the repertoire list
  • Reviews all student materials

All student materials are submitted to his/her advisor for review. Upon completion the advisor will then inform the Graduation Committee that the student is ready for graduation.

The advisor will advise the student of their graduation from the Program and the National Office will send out all graduation packets directly to the student.
